Hundreds of British troops are slated to deploy to Poland next month to participate in exercises simulating post-war peacekeeping operations in Ukraine, should a ceasefire be achieved.

The multinational contingent will include at least 1,500 personnel from Britain, France, and Germany. The drills are designed to rehearse the logistical and operational aspects of deploying troops and supplies in a post-conflict scenario, with European peacekeepers acting as a deterrent.

British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting stated from Washington that the exercise will ensure readiness to support Ukraine's anticipated military training and postwar rebuilding needs. He emphasized that Ukraine represents a critical front line for global freedom and its success against Russian aggression is vital. Streeting characterized the planning as leadership for the "coalition of the willing" and the pursuit of peace and freedom.

A defense source confirmed to The Times that the exercises would involve multinational troops operating together in a designated area. Poland's prime minister has expressed support for the initiative, deeming the presence of French and British forces as crucial for strengthening European military powers against Russian threats.

General Sir Roly Walker, chief of the general staff, addressed the army's response force, warning of growing global instability and the potential need for soldiers to engage in conflict. He indicated that political leaders would soon engage the public in discussions about the evolving security landscape and the nation's preparedness.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has resumed attacks on Russian oil refineries. A Ukrainian drone strike on Russia's Ryazan region recently caused a fire at a major oil refinery, marking a notable escalation after a period of reduced strikes on energy facilities. This follows comments from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who described the strikes as a "disgrace" and suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, rather than Russian President Vladimir Putin, was responsible for Ukraine's destruction. Zelensky had previously stated that Ukraine was ending its self-imposed block on attacking Russian refineries, citing the need to counter intense Russian assaults and the perceived "dangerous" impact of curtailed U.S. intelligence sharing and Starlink services on Ukrainian civilians.
