UK Summons Iran Ambassador Over "Threats on Our Soil"

Britain has summoned the Iranian ambassador to convey that "Britain will not tolerate threats on our soil," following an incident last month at RAF Fairford, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced.

Miliband stated that Iran's "continued attempts" to undermine the UK's security through "criminal networks, proxy groups and state-backed malign activity is unacceptable." In response, the Foreign Office has imposed travel bans and asset freezes on two Iranians, including the head of the regime's counterespionage operations.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham informed Members of Parliament on Monday that the incident at the airbase in Gloucestershire was "almost certainly directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard." Burnham also suggested that Iran could face further sanctions due to its suspected involvement.

On September 27, police were alerted to three suspicious vehicles near the airbase in the early hours, leading to a major incident declaration and the evacuation of dozens of homes. Seven men, all in their 20s, have been arrested in connection with the incident and subsequently released on bail. No charges have been filed, and Iran has denied any involvement.
