UK's Worst Motorway Services Revealed Based on Google Reviews

New research analyzing Google reviews has identified the United Kingdom's lowest-ranking motorway service stations. Moto's Bridgwater service station on the M5 in Somerset was found to be the least popular, with an average rating of 3.05 stars from nearly 10,000 reviews.

Drivers expressed concerns about the site, with one review describing the experience as "chaotic and unsafe for both drivers and pedestrians." Another noted that the toilets' proximity to the Burger King queue made them difficult to access. Some reviews, however, offered a more positive perspective, praising the cleanliness of the toilets and the customer service.

Moto's Leeming Bar service station on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire was ranked second lowest, averaging 3.26 stars from 2,151 reviews. Critics described it as "depressing," featuring only a petrol station and a "grim Costa" resembling a 1970s design.

The research, conducted by family holiday specialists Ski Famille, analyzed reviews for 97 service stations across the UK. The top 10 lowest-rated service stations are:

7. Gordano (Welcome Break), M5, North Somerset: 3.66 stars from 9,218 reviews
8. Sedgemoor Northbound (Welcome Break), M5, Somerset: 3.68 stars from 4,994 reviews
9. Scotch Corner (Moto), A1(M), North Yorkshire: 3.71 stars from 6,599 reviews
10. Knutsford (Moto), M6, Cheshire: 3.71 stars from 10,500 reviews

A Moto spokesperson commented that the company takes all customer feedback seriously but emphasized that this ranking is based on "historic, self-selecting Google reviews" rather than a representative survey. They highlighted that independent research from Transport Focus offers a broader assessment, noting that Moto Rugby was previously ranked the highest-rated service station in Britain in their most recent survey. A new Transport Focus survey is expected in November.

Roadchef stated that they continuously review customer feedback and are investing in improvements across their business, including EV charging, HGV facilities, and new retail and catering options.

This analysis follows a recent report naming the M27 in Hampshire as England's worst road, citing dissatisfaction with roadworks and long queues.
