UK Resident Faces Financial Strain Amid Soaring Domestic Oil Prices
A woman in Devon, England, reports a near doubling of heating oil costs, forcing her to conserve energy.

A 76-year-old woman in south Devon, England, is foregoing heating due to a significant increase in domestic oil prices, which have nearly doubled. Roslynn Garner-Gatley, who lives in a three-bedroom cottage without a gas supply, relies exclusively on oil for her heating and hot water.
Garner-Gatley stated that approximately six months prior, she purchased 500 liters (about 110 gallons) of heating oil for £317 plus VAT. Upon inquiring about a current quote for the same quantity, she was informed the cost would now be £600 plus VAT.
To manage the increased expense and conserve energy, Garner-Gatley has adopted measures such as using a hot water bottle, wearing bed socks, and going to bed earlier. The cost of domestic oil has become a significant concern for households dependent on this fuel source.
