UK Rail Regulator Rejects New Train Service Proposals
The Office of Rail and Road cited concerns that additional services would increase delays and cancellations for passengers.

Plans to introduce new train services on the West Coast Main Line, connecting London with Wrexham, Rochdale, and Blackpool, have been refused by the UK's Office of Rail and Road (ORR). The regulator determined that the proposed additions would likely lead to more delays and canceled trains for passengers.
Specifically, the ORR rejected an application from Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway for four daily return services between Wrexham and London Euston. Lumo's proposal for up to four weekday and Saturday return services between Rochdale and Euston, and three on Sundays, was also denied. Additionally, Avanti West Coast's plans to increase services between Blackpool and Euston were not approved.
The ORR stated that the current timetable includes essential recovery time for trains to manage disruptions, thereby minimizing delays for passengers. The regulator concluded that adding more services during these recovery windows would reduce the system's resilience, increasing the risk of widespread disruption impacting more travelers.
