UK 'Porch Pirate' Jailed After Residents Compile Evidence

A prolific thief who targeted homes in affluent west London neighborhoods has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for a series of parcel thefts. Ronald De-St-Aubin, 61, was dubbed the 'porch pirate' for his habit of stealing packages left on doorsteps. The spree came to an end when frustrated residents compiled a dossier of evidence, including doorbell camera footage, and presented it to the police.

De-St-Aubin targeted homes in areas such as Parsons Green, making off with items ranging from designer clothing and children's wear to champagne and electronics. The thefts occurred between July and September 2026.

One of the victims, Trisha Ray, reported the theft of an H&M package containing children's clothing, summer skirts, and bikinis valued at £196.88. Another resident, Charlie Evans, had three boxes of wine and champagne worth £500 stolen. Perrine Parker reported the theft of a designer jacket worth £60 from the online resale platform Vinted.

During the investigation, police searched De-St-Aubin's home in Hammersmith and found empty packages matching those stolen, as well as clothing that matched his appearance in CCTV footage. De-St-Aubin initially denied the charges but later pleaded guilty to six counts of theft by finding as the judge reviewed the gathered evidence.

Judge Martin Edmunds KC noted the impact of such thefts, stating, "When an expected parcel goes missing, it is certainly inconvenient, and may result in significant loss. It impacts on the quality of all of our lives." He added that such losses, whether borne by retailers or householders, ultimately contribute to higher prices for consumers and can harm smaller businesses.

De-St-Aubin has a history of acquisitive offending, with 41 previous convictions, including a recent conviction for burglary at a skateboard shop just four weeks prior to his parcel theft spree. His defense counsel stated that his offending pattern began in 1978 when he was 13 years old and that he relies on benefits and has a history of drug use.

Detective Sergeant Andy Swindells of the Metropolitan Police commented on the case, stating, "Ronald De-St-Aubin is a career criminal whose offending had a significant impact on his victims." He highlighted the use of CCTV and a GPS ankle tag worn by De-St-Aubin as part of a previous community order, which helped place him in the relevant areas during the times of the thefts. "We know that parcel theft causes real concerns in our communities - and I hope this case demonstrates that brazen criminality of the kind De-St-Aubin committed will not be tolerated," Swindells added.
