UK Police Release Five Terror Suspects on Bail After Plot Near U.S. Airbase

Five terror suspects arrested over the weekend on suspicion of plotting to target a U.S. airbase in Britain have been released on bail, British authorities confirmed Monday. The arrests occurred near RAF Fairford, a key U.S. Air Force installation in Gloucestershire, England.
Laurence Taylor, head of Counter Terrorism Policing, stated that investigations are ongoing into the five U.K. nationals. Authorities are exploring the possibility that the plot may have been committed by proxies or individuals working on behalf of a foreign state. The Iranian Embassy in London has categorically denied any connection to the arrested individuals.
The incident began Sunday night when a local farmer reported seeing three white vans blocking a road near RAF Fairford. The farmer told the BBC that upon turning her car around, she saw a group of masked men who fled into nearby woods when spotted. Defense Secretary Wes Streeting confirmed the farmer's account provided authorities with a "partial picture" of the events and thanked the member of the public for reporting the incident.
RAF Fairford has been utilized by the U.S. Air Force for operations in the Middle East, including missions against Iran. The base hosts significant U.S. Air Force assets.
The Iranian Embassy released a statement vehemently denying the allegations, calling them "unfounded and malicious speculations" and part of an "Iranophobia propaganda" effort. The embassy asserted its right to take legal measures against misleading media narratives.
Officials have not released further details about the five individuals, who were identified only as U.K. nationals. The investigation into the alleged terror plot and its potential foreign ties is continuing.
