UK Police Officer Jailed for Three Years for Leaking Information to Drug Dealer Boyfriend

A former police officer has been sentenced to three years in prison for sharing confidential information with her boyfriend, who was involved in organized crime. Tubah Hamid, 25, of Greater Manchester Police, was convicted of multiple offenses after an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and GMP's Professional Standards department.

Between December 2021 and June 2022, Hamid provided her boyfriend, a Class A drug dealer, with sensitive information from police systems. She also advised him on how to detect police surveillance.

Corrupt Actions Uncovered

On June 16, 2022, Hamid was observed entering a car with her boyfriend shortly after calling in sick to work. Later that same day, the vehicle was involved in a cocaine drug deal. Text messages uncovered by investigators revealed that Hamid had shared details on how to identify police surveillance with her boyfriend in April 2022.

Furthermore, Hamid conducted unauthorized searches on police computer systems for four individuals between October 2021 and March 2022. She then contacted two of these individuals without a legitimate policing purpose.

Presence During Arrest

Hamid was also present at her partner's address when police executed a raid, arresting him on suspicion of attempted murder and participation in organized crime activities. She failed to disclose her status as a serving police officer at the scene.

Conviction and Sentencing

Hamid was convicted in July after not giving evidence in her defense. At her sentencing, Liverpool Crown Court heard that she had no prior convictions and a previously good character. Judge Gary Woodhall described her actions as "audacious, corrupt and criminal."

She was sentenced to three years for misconduct in public office, four months for computer misuse, and four months for illegal prison communications. Hamid cried as the sentence was delivered, and a woman in the public gallery also wept.

Official Condemnation

IOPC Director of Engagement Amanda Rowe stated that Hamid's behavior was a "complete betrayal of the public's trust" and that such actions have "no place in policing." She emphasized that the investigation ensured Hamid was held accountable and now has a criminal record.

Detective Superintendent Dave Jones of GMP's Professional Standards Directorate confirmed that the Anti-Corruption Unit thoroughly investigated the matter. He added that while this may have been an isolated incident, it represented a serious breach of expected standards. Hamid was dismissed from the force under accelerated procedures in August 2025, prior to her conviction. Jones reiterated that GMP will act robustly to investigate wrongdoing and remove officers who abuse their position or assist criminal activity.
