UK Police Granted More Time to Question Suspects in Alleged Plot Against Jewish Community

Law enforcement officials in the United Kingdom have secured additional time to interrogate two men suspected of plotting against the Jewish community. The arrests, made on September 20 in Manchester, were conducted under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Sources familiar with the investigation have indicated that the alleged plot was in its advanced stages of planning and was considered "fairly imminent." Searches have been carried out at properties located on Epworth Street in Liverpool and Lancaster Road in Salford as part of the ongoing investigation.
The timing of the alleged plot is particularly concerning as it comes close to Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. In response to the arrests, a spokesperson for the Community Security Trust, an organization that monitors and coordinates security for Jewish communities in the UK, described the suspected plot as "utterly chilling." The spokesperson also stated that this incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent terrorist threats facing Jewish communities.
The two men, both in their 30s, remain in custody as the investigation continues.
