UK Police Arrest Man in Connection with Alleged Plot Near US Airbase
Arrest follows previous detentions in investigation linked to Iran and US bombers.
British police have arrested a 22-year-old man in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts, as part of an ongoing investigation into a suspected plot near RAF Fairford, an airbase used by the U.S. military.
Counter Terrorism Policing announced the arrest Tuesday, stating that officers searched a property in Westminster, where the man was apprehended. He remains in custody.
The investigation has garnered international attention following comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated that a threat linked to Iran prompted the removal of American B-1 bombers from the base. Iran has denied any involvement in an alleged plot.
This latest arrest is part of a broader inquiry. Previously, six men in their 20s were arrested in connection with the investigation. These individuals, including one dual British-Iranian national arrested on October 1, have since been released on police bail.
Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, Vicki Evans, stated on Tuesday that the investigation is active. "This remains a live investigation, and our specialist teams continue to pursue multiple lines of enquiry into the circumstances surrounding events near RAF Fairford," Evans said. She confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with teams pursuing various avenues related to the events at the airbase.
