UK Man Pleads Guilty to Public Indecency After Decade of Harassment

A 73-year-old man has pleaded guilty to outraging public decency following a 10-year harassment campaign against his neighbor. Robert May admitted to performing lewd acts in front of Margaret Day, including fondling her bras on her washing line and exposing himself naked in his window.

May's actions, which also included sending explicit text messages, continued for over a decade, affecting Mrs. Day both before and after the death of her husband, Brian.

Escalation of Harassment

The harassment began approximately 11 years ago with text messages. In one message, May wrote, "When Brian goes to the pub, let me know I'm coming over to see your breasts." He further added, "I do things for you, so you should let me see your breasts."

After Brian Day's death in December 2014, May continued to send messages, including one that read, "I would have put the bin out, but you know what I want to see."

Mrs. Day's daughter, Sue Mason-Day, decided to install a Ring doorbell at her mother's property to gather evidence. The footage captured May entering Mrs. Day's garden and touching her bras on the washing line.

The situation escalated further in July of the previous year, when Mrs. Day observed May standing naked in his window. "She said one morning while making a cup of tea she could see him and it frightened her as he had been close enough to be able to look directly into the kitchen," Mason-Day recounted.

To document this, Mason-Day and her husband hid in her mother's car while Mrs. Day went out. They recorded May removing his net curtains and masturbating in his window.

Legal Proceedings

When confronted with the evidence, May initially denied the acts, claiming he was applying deep heat. He later changed his plea to guilty on September 15.

May will be sentenced at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court later this month. Mrs. Mason-Day stated that her mother had endured "years of hell" and could no longer enjoy her garden due to the prolonged harassment.
