Simon Levy, who has been labeled a "predatory monster," is scheduled for sentencing today for the murders of Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo and Sheryl Wilkins, and the rape and near-fatal suffocation of a third woman. Levy was convicted last week at the Old Bailey, where it emerged he had been preying on women for years, with many offenses occurring while he was on bail.

Levy, 40, was previously convicted earlier this year of 13 sexual assaults between 2018 and 2025. Detectives believe Levy may have been conducting daily attacks for years, escalating from groping women on the London Underground to rape and murder. He faces the possibility of a life sentence after being convicted of murder and rape.

The case has brought to light what are described as significant failures by police and probation services in overseeing Levy. Despite a history of sexual violence dating back to 2018, Levy was repeatedly released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of sexual assaults and even murder. British Transport Police, the Metropolitan Police, and magistrates are noted to have failed to recognize the danger he posed, releasing him on bail four times.

While on bail, Levy is believed to have committed at least six sexual assaults on the Tube. He also raped and suffocated a sex worker, leaving her for dead, before going on to kill the two other women over a two-year period. Reports indicate that women had been reporting Levy for rape and sexual assault for nearly a decade, but he was repeatedly not brought to justice.

Levy was first jailed for three years in 2021 for sex attacks at Notting Hill Carnival and a Camden street party in 2018. While incarcerated, he reportedly groped a prison officer in 2022. Upon his early release in February 2023, Levy informed probation staff about sex workers offering him services, while claiming he stayed home due to an eye condition. However, by October 2023, Levy had begun targeting women on the Tube, traveling across London during peak hours.

Levy was arrested in November 2024 for two sex attacks on the Tube, but a delay in basic identification checks by a British Transport Police officer resulted in his bail being extended on January 21, 2025. The night of this bail extension, Levy committed his first rape, an attack on a sex worker that left her near death.

On March 17, Levy committed another attack, killing Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo. Her body was discovered in a stairwell in Southwark. Four days prior to his arrest on April 1 in connection with her murder, Levy had told police visiting his home that he did not go out, a claim that a simple computer check would have disproven as he was on bail for Tube assaults.

After Levy's arrest for murder, British Transport Police delayed conducting a risk assessment and extending his bail to May 1, instead of arresting him for other offenses on April 3. This delay reportedly led Levy to accelerate his offending, carrying out four more attacks on the underground before his scheduled court appearance. On May 2, he was charged with five Tube sex assaults and remanded in custody overnight, but was subsequently released on bail by magistrates despite suspicion of murder.

Levy failed to appear in court on June 3 for a sixth sex assault charge, but officers did not issue a warrant for his arrest. Three weeks later, he was spotted on the underground and charged with breaching his bail conditions by being on the Tube, failing to appear in court, and committing two sex attacks. Despite this, he was granted bail again when he appeared in court. He missed further hearings on July 18 and August 11, yet no warrant was sought.

On August 28, Levy murdered Sheryl Wilkins, leaving her body in the same location as the earlier rape attack. Police arrested Levy on September 5 after he was identified by a facial recognition camera at the scene. He was remanded in custody three days later.

In February of this year, Levy was convicted of 11 sexual assaults committed between April 2022 and May 2025. This prosecution was kept secret to avoid prejudicing his subsequent murder trial.
