UK Influencer Arrested in Miami on Assault Charge Claims Harsh US Jail Conditions
Wolfi Watson, known online as Costakid, alleges mistreatment after spending five days in a Miami-Dade jail following his arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
A British social media influencer, known online as Costakid, has spoken out about his alleged harsh treatment by U.S. authorities following his arrest in Miami on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Wolfi Watson, 20, from Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, spent five days in a Miami-Dade jail after being taken into custody last week. His bail was set at $5,000.
Watson, who has amassed over 300,000 followers on TikTok and 116,000 on Instagram, is known for performing pranks and creating social media content. He had traveled to Florida to film material.
Following his release, Watson posted a video on Instagram detailing his experiences. He claimed he had not been able to shower for nearly a week and had difficulty using the toilet. He also alleged that he was threatened by prison officers after requesting to change the TV channel, suggesting that U.S. prisons and police are significantly tougher than their British counterparts.
"First day out. Nothing like UK jails. Let me tell you something, the police here don't play," Watson stated in his video. "I asked if I could change the channel on the TV and an officer said he was going to punch me. I haven't showered. I haven't s**t in like five days. Oh my days."
Watson did not elaborate on the specifics of the aggravated assault charge in his social media post. He did, however, mention a resolution to abstain from alcohol, stating, "I'm not drinking alcohol again."
Watson's online content often features challenges, pranks, and collaborations with other influencers. Before traveling to Miami, he had filmed videos in various locations across the UK, including London, Ipswich, and Norwich. Some videos appeared to show him being detained by police, including incidents involving armed officers, following prank calls, a tactic known as 'swatting'.
In recent weeks, Watson had been sharing videos from Miami, including clips of him interacting with local women and searching for alligators. He also claimed in one post that he and a friend had been subjected to gunfire after attending a party, with a video on his account purporting to show a bullet hole in a vehicle's door.
