UK Home Sellers Consider Luxury Car Rentals to Boost Appeal, Poll Finds
A survey indicates that nearly half of British homeowners have thought about renting an expensive vehicle to make their properties more attractive.
Nearly half of homeowners in the UK have considered renting a luxury car to enhance their property's appeal when trying to sell, according to new research. A nationwide survey of 2,000 individuals found that 72% of property owners believe an expensive vehicle parked on the driveway would make a home appear more desirable.
Among those considering rentals, 47% have thought about hiring a Mercedes-Benz, 43% preferred a BMW, and 35% explored renting an Audi. This trend emerges as a significant portion of landlords, two-thirds, are reportedly planning to sell their properties. However, sellers may face financial challenges, with recent tax data suggesting potential losses due to high mortgage rates and cautious buyers.
The average UK property price has remained stable at £298,441 this year. However, London has seen a 2.2% decrease in home prices, reaching an average of £531,548, while the South East experienced a 2.1% drop to £380,829.
Homeowners are increasingly looking for creative ways to attract potential buyers, as indicated by the research commissioned by car rental company SIXT. Beyond luxury cars, 44% of buyers find fresh flowers appealing, and 34% are drawn to properties with walk-in closets. Sensory elements also play a role, with 34% noting that the smell of freshly made coffee enhances a home's attractiveness, and 33% are swayed by the aroma of freshly baked bread.
The survey highlights the speed at which buyers form opinions, with 88% making an initial impression within seconds of arrival, often within 28 seconds. External appearance is crucial, as 55% of buyers stated that a property's exterior significantly influences their decision, and 88% agree that kerb appeal is vital in the buying and selling process.
Danny Groom, Associate Director and Estate Agent for Crabb Curtis, commented on the findings, stating, "First impressions really do count and those little details, from a premium car in the driveway to freshly cut flowers or the smell of freshly brewed coffee, can make all the difference." He added that buyers often seek to see a lifestyle they aspire to within a property, which can accelerate the decision-making process. Groom emphasized that in a competitive market, even small changes can significantly impact a buyer's offer.
