UK Government Defends Small Boat Strategy Amid Record Crossings
Despite a surge in migrant arrivals, officials maintain their approach is effective, citing a reduction in summer crossings.
The UK Home Office has reported a significant increase in migrant arrivals via small boats, with 781 individuals reaching the country on Wednesday. This figure surpasses the previous yearly high of 752 recorded on July 29. In the first three days of the week, a total of 1,085 migrants crossed the English Channel.
In response to the latest figures, a government spokesperson stated that progress in tackling small boat crossings is evident. The spokesperson asserted that crossings are down by 42% this year and have reached their lowest recorded levels over the summer months since 2020.
These statistics have prompted a public poll, "The Morning Poll," asking whether the government's strategy for addressing small boat crossings is effective. The results of this poll are scheduled to be published in the Morning Mail newsletter.
