UK Fuel Prices Reach Record Highs Amidst Global Tensions
A lorry training firm in the UK is struggling to absorb the impact of unprecedented diesel costs, which have surged due to ongoing global conflicts.
The average price of diesel in the United Kingdom has hit an all-time high this week, reaching 199.33 pence per liter, according to the RAC motoring organization. This surge in fuel costs is placing a significant strain on businesses, including training firms that rely heavily on vehicle operation.
Steve Dulson, managing director of Dulson Training, a firm based in Shropshire that teaches individuals to drive lorries and buses, stated that the company is having to "ride out" the increasing expenses of filling its fleet. He noted that the cost to refuel each lorry has risen by hundreds of pounds compared to prices in 2025.
"Over the last 12 months we've seen a rise of up to 50p a litre, excluding VAT, and it's hard to react to that, because of how we deal with our customers," Dulson explained. "Our customers have usually been in our pipeline for some time, taking medicals, applying for provisional [licences] or taking theory tests, so by the time they've got to their practical training, and the fuel prices have increase, they've already been quoted. That makes it difficult for us to put prices up."
The rising fuel prices have been attributed to the ongoing US-Iran war, which began in February. Petrol prices have also seen an increase, now standing at 174.23 pence per liter.
