The United Kingdom is preparing for a prolonged period of high temperatures, with meteorologists issuing heat-health alerts. Current forecasts indicate that temperatures could surpass 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) somewhere in the UK for as many as 10 consecutive days, marking the third heatwave of the summer.
This extended hot spell is notable for its duration, distinguishing it from previous heatwaves experienced in May and June. During the heatwave in June, temperatures exceeded 30C on seven consecutive days, while the May heatwave lasted for six days. Although the upcoming period of hot weather is expected to be more forgiving than the heatwave in June, which saw some nights where temperatures did not fall below 20C, some larger urban areas may still experience overnight temperatures in the high teens later in the week. It remains possible that a 'tropical night,' defined as a night where temperatures do not drop below 20C, could be recorded in isolated locations.
Neighboring European countries are also anticipating significant heat, with Spain expected to reach 40C and France forecast to see temperatures between 37C and 39C. Germany and other parts of eastern Europe are predicted to experience temperatures in the low to mid-30s, similar to the UK.
