The United Kingdom is bracing for a continued heatwave, with temperatures set to remain elevated into the next week, despite a predicted cooling trend over the weekend. On Friday, Coton-in-the Elms in Derbyshire recorded England's highest temperature at 35.2C, while Usk in Monmouthshire reached 34.3C in Wales. Scotland's highest temperature was 29.7C in Threave, Dumfries and Galloway, and Northern Ireland saw a peak of 27.4C in Killowen, County Down.

Weekend Temperature Variations

Saturday is forecast to see the highest temperatures in the west Midlands, southeast Wales, and parts of southern England, potentially reaching up to 33C. However, a brisk north-easterly wind will cause temperatures to drop in eastern England, where some coastal areas from Northumberland to Suffolk may experience cloudy and misty conditions. These areas are expected to see more sunshine on Sunday.

Scotland and Northern Ireland will also likely experience more cloud cover. Showers in eastern Scotland are expected to dissipate by Sunday, allowing for increased sunshine, though temperatures will likely remain around 23C to 24C, with eastern Scotland being cooler. As the wind strengthens on Sunday, temperatures in England and Wales are predicted to decrease by a few degrees, though southern England could still reach 30C.
