A 16-year-old boy has been sentenced to four and a half years in custody for stabbing his history teacher at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire. The attack occurred in February when the student, who was 15 at the time, asked the teacher, Vicki Williams, to check his homework before assaulting her.

The teenager, whose identity is protected due to legal reasons, was found guilty of wounding with intent. He was acquitted by a jury of the more serious charge of attempted murder.

During the sentencing at Swansea Crown Court, Judge Paul Thomas KC stated that it was fortunate Mrs. Williams did not suffer more severe or fatal injuries. He noted the defendant's failure to provide a reason for the attack, though he suggested it might have been due to the teacher having upset him in some way. The judge emphasized that the boy had taken the knife to school with the intention of causing significant harm, acknowledging that the jury determined he did not intend to kill her.

Mrs. Williams, in a victim impact statement, revealed she is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. She recounted seeing "pure hatred" in the boy's eyes as he attacked her with an eight-inch kitchen knife, pushing her into a chair before fleeing the scene. The school was placed on lockdown following the incident. Mrs. Williams viewed the sentencing hearing via an online link.
