Lindsay and Craig Foreman, a couple from East Sussex detained in Iran, have spoken with their family for the first time in three months. The pair, who deny espionage charges and were sentenced to 10 years in prison, are being held at Evin prison.
Joe Bennett, Lindsay Foreman's son, described the 12-minute call as an "enormous relief," stating it was their first official conversation since the couple ended hunger strikes. He reported that his mother said they were "slowly rebuilding their strength" after significant weight loss. Bennett added that his mother and her partner have remained "mentally resilient" and "determined to return home."
The call was reportedly monitored and conducted with an interpreter present, limiting the scope of their conversation. Bennett is urging the UK government to arrange an urgent consular visit and ensure the couple receive adequate medical care. He expressed concern that the Foremans had not received a full medical assessment following their hunger strikes.
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) confirmed that staff had returned to the UK embassy in Iran, which had been closed due to regional security concerns. The spokesperson stated that the couple's health and welfare remain a "top priority."
