Sunderland City Council Reform UK councillor Glenn Gibbins has been charged with posting a grossly offensive comment on social media that referenced the Nigerian community. The charge, filed under the Communications Act 2003, pertains to a post made in 2024.
Northumbria Police stated they are aware of the public interest in the case and urged against speculation. Gibbins, 66, who resides in the Sunderland area, is scheduled to appear before South Tyneside Magistrates' Court next month.
Following an investigation by his party, Gibbins received a final written warning. A spokesperson for Reform UK indicated that the party is monitoring the situation and will closely observe the court's verdict.
