Volunteers from the Towcester Community Larder in Northamptonshire are working to collect and redistribute surplus food following the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The initiative aims to combat food waste generated by the large crowds attending the event.
Last year, the community larder collected 32 tonnes of unused food from the circuit. This year, volunteers have already gathered 15 tonnes of food since Sunday, with expectations that the collection will continue to grow. The organization described the items collected as "weird and wonderful."
Thousands of fans attend the Grand Prix, and the larder's efforts help to ensure that edible food does not go to waste. The collected food is made available to those in need through the community larder's services.
The operation involves volunteers making multiple trips to the Silverstone circuit to gather the donated food, which can include a variety of items such as produce, prepared meals, and other edibles that meet food safety standards for redistribution.
