UK authorities are investigating protests targeting migrant boats, with organizers accused of "intimidating and thuggish behaviour." The demonstrations, which have disrupted public spaces, have drawn condemnation from the government.
One organizer, identified as Danny Thomas, is reported to have been involved in protests in both Dover and Portsmouth. Thomas has reportedly been filming himself confronting migrants on French beaches and sharing the content on social media for the past year. In July, he launched a venture called Patriot Platform, advocating for "mass resistance" that he claims would be without violence.
In a video apparently filmed in northwest England, Thomas told a gathered group that "something is about to go down and men from all round the country will be involved in it." The protest in Dover, described by Kent Police as "spontaneous," has led to questions about the force's advance knowledge of the event. The government has stated that while peaceful protest is a fundamental right, it must not devolve into disorder.
Protesters in Dover were seen being escorted by police down a dual carriageway. In Portsmouth, crowds reportedly surrounded police vans. These actions echo tactics used by groups like Just Stop Oil, focusing on strong visual protests designed for maximum disruption. The Dover demonstration, described as well-organized and disciplined, is unlikely to be the last such event.
