A member of the United Kingdom's armed forces has died in a road traffic incident in Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced.
The individual's family has been notified and has requested privacy, according to the MoD statement. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, was not the result of hostile action, the BBC understands.
The British government has previously acknowledged the presence of a small number of personnel in Ukraine. These individuals are tasked with supporting Kyiv's armed forces and providing security for diplomatic staff.
"Our thoughts and our sympathies are with the individual's loved ones at this difficult time," the MoD stated. The specific service branch and role of the deceased individual are not yet known.
Fighting has intensified in Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
