UEFA is threatening to initiate criminal proceedings against FIFA President Gianni Infantino as part of ongoing efforts to remove him from his position. European football's governing body stated it is preparing to bring criminal claims in Switzerland against Infantino and other FIFA officials.

These actions stem from previously undisclosed plans to sell stakes in the World Cup. UEFA intends to invoke Swiss criminal code concerning the "secretive structuring, valuation, financing, and marketing" of these controversial proposals. The body also plans to question whether Infantino, who is seeking re-election next year, proposed a "fraudulently off-market price" for his own personal gain.

This development follows UEFA's withdrawal of plans to boycott FIFA tournaments. The boycott was a protest against the World Cup stake sale proposals. UEFA's decision to halt protest actions came after receiving assurances from Infantino that such a sell-off would not be repeated.
