UEFA Demands Documents from FIFA by November 2 Deadline
European football body issues ultimatum to FIFA President Gianni Infantino over governance and decision-making disclosures.
UEFA has set a November 2 deadline for FIFA to release key documents concerning its governance and decision-making processes. The European football governing body stated that FIFA has failed to address "a number of fundamental questions" and that any refusal to disclose information must be individually justified with clear explanations.
The ultimatum was communicated in a letter from UEFA General Secretary Theodore Theodoridis to FIFA, which was seen by BBC Sport. The letter indicates that FIFA President Gianni Infantino has not yet released documents related to a recent World Cup sell-off plan, despite having apologized for it at a FIFA Council meeting on Thursday.
In addition to the sell-off plan, UEFA's concerns detailed in an eight-page document extend to other areas, including the FIFA Forward Enterprise private investment proposal, the FIFA Peace Prize, and a suspended ban concerning player Folarin Balogun. FIFA has been approached for comment regarding these demands and concerns. The situation highlights ongoing tensions and scrutiny surrounding FIFA's transparency and operations under Infantino's leadership. Investigations into FIFA's practices have been a recurring theme, with various stakeholders calling for greater accountability and openness from the world football governing body.
