UCLA to Honor Legendary Broadcaster Jim Hill at Rose Bowl
The university will celebrate the five-decade career of the iconic Los Angeles sports journalist.

UCLA will honor veteran broadcaster Jim Hill with a ceremony at the Rose Bowl on Nov. 28, prior to the Bruins' rivalry game against USC. Hill, who is set to turn 80 later this month, has been a prominent figure in Los Angeles sports coverage for over 50 years.
"Jim Hill has become synonymous with sports in Los Angeles," said UCLA CEO and Director of Athletics Tim Harris in a statement. "For generations of fans, Jim has been a trusted voice and presence for so many of the moments that have made sports in this city special. UCLA has been fortunate to have Jim tell the stories of our student-athletes, coaches and teams throughout his remarkable career. Jim is an L.A. sports legend, and there is no better place to honor him than at the Rose Bowl."
Hill joined CBS in 1976 and has covered a wide array of significant sporting events in the Los Angeles area, including multiple NCAA championships, Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, Olympic Games, and World Cups. Earlier this year, he marked his 50th anniversary on the air in Los Angeles.
Beyond his extensive broadcast career, Hill has also gained national recognition for his appearances in movies and television shows, often playing himself. His acting credits include roles in "Rocky III," "Arli$$," and "The Game."
Before his career in broadcasting, Hill was a standout college athlete. He was a first-round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers after playing at Texas A&I University. He went on to play seven seasons in the NFL for the Chargers, Green Bay Packers, and Cleveland Browns before transitioning to sports journalism.
