Tyreek Hill Found Liable for Battery in Civil Case, Awarded $500,000
A Miami jury ruled against the NFL player on two counts of battery, awarding his estranged wife $500,000 in damages.
A Miami jury has found NFL wide receiver Tyreek Hill liable on two counts of battery in a civil domestic violence case brought by his estranged wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro Hill. The jury awarded Vaccaro Hill $500,000 in compensatory damages, though she was not awarded the punitive damages she sought.
The jury found Hill not liable on eight other counts, and a judge dismissed one count earlier in the trial. Hill's attorney, Christi Bright, stated that her client was pleased with the outcome and the opportunity to present his side of the story. "He's very grateful," Bright told reporters.
During the week-long trial, Vaccaro Hill alleged that Hill had attempted to punch her in the stomach while she was pregnant in the summer of 2024, stating he said, "I don’t want the baby." Their daughter, Capri, was born in November of that year. Hill was not found liable for this specific allegation, according to The Athletic.
The verdicts against Hill were for incidents in January 2024 and April 2025. The latter incident reportedly involved nanny cam footage and an argument where Hill allegedly called Vaccaro Hill a "broke bitch" and attempted to take their daughter from their home.
While denying physical harm in the case, Hill testified last Thursday that he felt "deeply ashamed" after making a statement about "able to get people to hurt her."
The NFL has stated that the league is monitoring the situation and that Hill's status is under review regarding its personal conduct policy. Hill, a five-time All-Pro First Team selection, remains unsigned.
The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly reached out to Hill's agent about a potential reunion earlier in the week, but ultimately signed wide receiver Justin Watson to their practice squad. Hill played his first six seasons with the Chiefs, winning Super Bowl LIV, before being traded to the Miami Dolphins before the 2022 season. He was released by the Dolphins in February after sustaining an injury.
