Tyler Wade, Baseball Star and Ex of Alix Earle, Retires at 31
The former New York Yankees utilityman announced his departure from the sport in an emotional social media post.
Tyler Wade, a utilityman who played for the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Angels, has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball at the age of 31. Wade shared his decision in an emotional post on X on Monday, shortly after the conclusion of the regular season.
"Dear baseball, For as long as I can remember, all I ever wanted was to play in the Major Leagues," Wade wrote. "Now, 13 years later and after 9 years in the big leagues, it's time to move on." He expressed gratitude to the Yankees for drafting him as an 18-year-old and giving him the chance to fulfill his dream. He also thanked the Padres, Angels, and Athletics for their contributions to his career.
Wade's career in MLB spanned nine seasons, during which he played in 506 games and hit seven home runs. He spent time in 2026 attempting to make the roster for the Texas Rangers. The former infielder last appeared in the majors with the San Diego Padres in 2025.
Outside of baseball, Wade gained public attention for his past relationship with influencer Alix Earle. Their romance, which began in September 2022, ended around December of the same year. Earle later described their relationship as "toxic" on her podcast, citing a lack of support, particularly regarding her social media endeavors.
"Everything that I did he s**t on. He did not support me at all, especially when it came to social media stuff," Earle said, contrasting Wade with a subsequent NFL boyfriend who was more supportive of her online presence. She recalled meeting Wade when she was "fresh out of my junior year of college" and overlooking red flags due to his status as an MLB player.
Wade concluded his retirement announcement by expressing his fondness for his teammates and the daily experience of professional baseball: "And lastly, to my teammates: I'm going to miss the grind, the clubhouse, the competition, and being in the jungle every day with the guys. Thank you, baseball. You gave me more than I could have dreamed of."
It remains unclear what Wade's future plans entail.
