Two Wounded in Shooting at Minneapolis Suburban Homecoming Game
Authorities are investigating the incident that led to the evacuation of Eden Prairie High School's football game and the cancellation of related celebrations.
Two teenagers were wounded in a shooting that occurred Friday night outside Eden Prairie High School in a Minneapolis suburb, prompting the evacuation of a homecoming football game and leading to the cancellation of subsequent events. The incident, which took place around 9 p.m. local time during a game between Eden Prairie and Minnetonka, sent thousands of spectators fleeing the stadium.
The Eden Prairie Police Department stated that the two individuals injured were 17 and 18 years old and were known to law enforcement. One victim remained hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other was treated and released. Neither of the injured parties were students at either Eden Prairie or Minnetonka High Schools.
Sources suggest the shooting is linked to Somali immigrant gangs in the area, according to FOX 9. Police reported that a large fight had broken out on the west side of the stadium shortly before the gunfire erupted in the parking lot of Aerie Stadium. Authorities are currently seeking at least one getaway vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.
The shooting led to the cancellation of the homecoming dance, as well as other planned celebrations for the weekend. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
