Police have charged two women following a violent brawl that erupted at Sydney's Bankstown Central shopping centre on Wednesday afternoon. The incident began about 1:20 p.m. when officers responded to reports of an assault.
According to a NSW Police spokesperson, the two women allegedly stole items from a business before assaulting a loss prevention officer. Social media footage captured the ensuing altercation, showing two young women engaging in a physical fight with a male shopper outside a Myer store.
One of the women appeared to strike the man, who then tripped and fell. A second woman was seen being restrained by another man. As security personnel intervened, one of the women was heard saying, "You can't touch us."
Momentarily, a third man attempted to move a pram out of the path of the confrontation. However, as he passed the group, the women reportedly pulled the pram away from him.
The two women, aged 19 and 22, were arrested nearby. Both have been issued with field court attendance notices. They face charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm while in company. The older woman has also been charged with larceny and possessing a prescribed restricted substance. Both are scheduled to appear before Bankstown Local Court on July 30.
