Four individuals, including two serving police officers, have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected fraud and bribery within the Police Federation of England and Wales. The arrests were made Tuesday at the federation's offices in Leatherhead, Surrey, by the City of London Police's corruption unit.
The arrested individuals include two women in their 50s and two men in their 40s and 50s. All four were taken to a police station for questioning. This development follows three arrests made in connection with the same case in March.
The Police Federation serves as a representative body for over 145,000 rank-and-file police officers in England and Wales, up to the rank of chief inspector, as well as special constables.
Detective Superintendent Jim Halkett stated that the investigation is "making significant progress" and that officers are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry to ascertain the full facts. The four individuals arrested on Tuesday are being questioned on suspicion of fraud by abuse of position of trust. Two of the suspects, a woman and a man in his 50s, also face allegations of bribery and fraud by failing to disclose information.
In March, three men were arrested on suspicion of fraud by abuse of position. These individuals, aged 51, 55, and 46, occupied or had previously held senior governance or operational roles within the Police Federation. The Police Federation chief executive, Mukund Krishna, is understood to be among those arrested in March. The federation confirmed that Krishna had been suspended from his role due to the ongoing police investigation.
