The bodies of two men discovered buried in shallow graves in the California desert have been identified as Edward Perez, 46, and Ricky Phillips, 61, both from the Lancaster area. The discovery has intensified a homicide investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Perez was reported missing on September 19, while Phillips had been missing since September 10. Their remains were found at a remote Lancaster property near 50th Street East and Avenue F, an area described as being littered with debris, RVs, and remnants of an old greenhouse.

Investigators launched a search on Tuesday and concluded their operation on Wednesday, with aerial footage capturing deputies excavating the site. Cadaver dogs were also utilized in the extensive search.

Authorities have stated that the case is being treated as a homicide due to the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the bodies. The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office has listed the cause and manner of death for both individuals as "deferred," with no further details released.

Law enforcement officials have not yet disclosed how the men died or if any suspects have been identified.
