Sedor Olmez, 20, and Roderick Mirzakhanian, 31, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Friday, accused of causing the death of Laura Sone-Demetrious, 28, by driving dangerously.

The incident, described as a "hit and run," occurred on the A10 Great Cambridge Road in Enfield, north London, on January 9, 2024. Ms. Sone-Demetrious was using a pedestrian crossing with her dogs when the collision took place.

Olmez also faces a charge of driving a BMW that was uninsured at the time of the incident. Both men, who are from Tottenham, north London, appeared in court and spoke only to confirm their personal details. They did not enter pleas.

Magistrates deemed the case too serious for their sentencing powers and sent it to the Old Bailey for a plea and trial preparation hearing scheduled for September 4. Olmez and Mirzakhanian were released on unconditional bail.

Family members have remembered Ms. Sone-Demetrious as a "great mum" and a "caring young lady." Her sister, Gina, described her as "an angel in disguise" and noted her affectionate relationship with her dogs. Her father, Peter, shared his grief on Facebook, calling it "the most unhappy day of my life."

Ms. Sone-Demetrious also worked at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and was a supporter of Arsenal. Her cousin, Chris Chaplin, also remembered her as a "great mum and cousin."

The A10 in Enfield has previously been the site of a fatal incident. In 2017, Nilgün Akgün, 44, was killed while crossing the same junction.
