Two Latvians Arrested at UK RAF Base, Counter-Terrorism Probe Launched
Authorities investigating potential National Security Act offense after trespassers apprehended at RAF Molesworth.

Two Latvian nationals have been arrested at Royal Air Force (RAF) Molesworth in Cambridgeshire on suspicion of trespass and offenses under the National Security Act. Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) discovered an abandoned vehicle near the base during security patrols around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. A subsequent search revealed a breach in the base's perimeter fence.
Two men, aged 36 and 32, were apprehended within the base. Both are identified as Latvian nationals residing in the UK. They were initially taken into custody on suspicion of trespass on a prohibited site and criminal damage. Counter Terrorism Policing London has since expanded the arrests to include suspicion of an offense under Section 4 of the National Security Act 2023, which pertains to entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the United Kingdom.
Counter Terrorism Policing is leading the investigation into the incident, and the men remain in custody. Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, stated that while authorities are aware of increased concern surrounding military sites, there is currently no indication that this incident is linked to recent events at RAF Fairford. The investigation is in its early stages, with officers working to determine any potential motivation for the men's presence at the site. Police are keeping an open mind as inquiries continue.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. Tips can be submitted by calling 0800 789321 or online via the National Security Act reporting portal.
