Two Killed, One Injured in California Hit-and-Run Involving Bicyclists
Suspected drunk driver arrested after striking a group of cyclists and fleeing the scene.
Two bicyclists were killed and a third was seriously injured when a suspected drunk driver struck a group of about 30 cyclists on a Saturday night in Montclair, California. The driver then fled the scene before being arrested early Sunday.
The collision occurred around 10:39 p.m. on Kingsley Street near Tudor Avenue. The vehicle was traveling westbound when it collided with several cyclists who were heading eastbound. One cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and another died early Sunday after being transported to a hospital. The third injured rider is reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities arrested Valentin Alberto Rodriguez, 38, at his nearby home. He faces charges including driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter. Information from other reports indicated that one victim was dragged for more than a mile before the vehicle came to a stop, though this detail was not included in the initial police statement.
