At least two civilians were killed and four others were injured, including two police officers, in a shooting incident at a Minneapolis apartment building on Wednesday afternoon. The suspect was also killed at the scene, though it remains unclear if the death was a result of police involvement.

Minneapolis police responded to reports of a shooting at Loring Towers, an affordable housing complex, at approximately 4:36 p.m. Upon arrival minutes later, officers discovered one deceased victim and several individuals with gunshot wounds. As police advanced further into the building, they encountered a haze that obscured visibility and subsequently heard additional gunfire. Two officers were shot during this engagement; one sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, while the other was shot in the stomach and underwent surgery, remaining in stable condition.

In total, seven patients were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Federal and state agencies, including the ATF, FBI, and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, responded to the scene to assist local law enforcement. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz stated his public safety team was on site to support local authorities.

The shooting prompted temporary lockdowns at the nearby University of St Thomas Minneapolis campus and the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis. Residents described hearing rapid gunfire and experiencing terror during the incident.

Anthony Strong, who was outside the building when the shooting began, recounted hearing multiple shots before going upstairs. "It was pop, pop, pop, pop and it was a bunch more after that, and then I went upstairs," he said, describing seeing injured individuals and an officer being attended to. Umecua Agnew, a resident of the building, was in an elevator with a child when the shots rang out. She and the child took shelter in her apartment before being evacuated to safety across the street.
