Two Fatal Crashes Snarl Southern California Freeway During Morning Rush

Two separate fatal collisions on the westbound 60 Freeway in Chino created significant traffic disruptions during Monday morning's commute. The accidents occurred less than two miles apart, leading to major backups that stretched for miles.

The first crash was reported shortly before 6 a.m. near the Mountain Avenue exit. Preliminary information from the California Highway Patrol indicated a motorcyclist was involved and ended up in the freeway lanes. A SigAlert was issued, and the coroner's office was called to the scene following the fatality.

Approximately 40 minutes later, a second fatal crash occurred further west near Central Avenue. This collision involved a semitruck and a Lexus. According to the CHP incident log, the semitruck drove up an embankment before striking the Lexus. One of the drivers involved was transported to a hospital and later died.

The two incidents, separated by the Mountain Avenue and Central Avenue exits, caused extensive gridlock. By around 9 a.m., traffic was backed up for miles as authorities worked at the crash sites. Three lanes were closed near Mountain Avenue for the investigation into the first crash, while both lanes of the westbound 60 Freeway on-ramp from Central Avenue were shut down due to the second collision.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area as investigations and closures continued throughout the morning.
