Two drivers were arrested Tuesday night after a suspected road rage incident culminated in a crash that injured a pedestrian and damaged a building in Brooklyn, New York. The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on Fulton Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.
Surveillance footage captured the moment a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk was nearly struck by two cars, a black Cadillac and a BMW, which were allegedly speeding and ran a red light. The pedestrian, a 20-year-old man, managed to jump out of the way as the vehicles approached. The BMW then crashed into the storefront of an under-construction yoga studio.
All three individuals involved – the pedestrian, the Cadillac driver identified as Anthony Hayes, 56, and the BMW driver, Robert Walker, 43 – sustained injuries and were transported to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. Hayes, of Binghamton, N.Y., faces charges including vehicular assault, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving. Walker, of Stroudsburg, Pa., is charged with vehicular assault, criminal mischief, and running a red light.
The crash caused significant damage to the building, which housed Noir Yoga's second location, set to open on August 1. The owner, Mason Mason, told News12 that the grand opening has been postponed due to the extensive damage.
Emergency services responded to the scene. The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) requested National Grid to shut off the gas as a precautionary measure, and the Department of Buildings was notified of the structural damage.
