Two individuals were discovered fatally shot inside a vehicle on the University of Chicago campus Thursday evening, according to local reports. Police identified the victims as a 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man.
The pair was found near the 5900 block of South Ellis, close to the Midway Plaisance Ice Skating Rink and Harper Quad, around 5:35 p.m. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds to the head and were transported to a university hospital in critical condition, where they were later pronounced dead.
It remains unclear if the victims had any affiliation with the university. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Authorities reported that the vehicle appeared to have crashed either during or after the shooting.
The Chicago Police Department stated that the incident is under investigation. Fox News Digital reached out to university police for further details.
The shooting occurred amidst ongoing discussions about crime in Chicago. President Trump has previously offered to deploy the National Guard to the city, a proposal that Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have criticized, arguing that the president lacks an understanding of local safety needs and has undermined institutions that contribute to public safety.
