Two people have died following the crash of a U.S. Army Apache attack helicopter in Salado, Texas, on Wednesday. The Bell County Sheriff's Office confirmed the fatalities.
The helicopter went down in a field near Fort Hood, according to two sources familiar with the incident. The Apache is a two-seater aircraft.
Authorities received a 911 call about the crash shortly after 1:30 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, sheriff's officers found a grass fire that was described as "out of control." The fire was still burning at the time of the report, but no buildings or structures were damaged.
The Sheriff's Office confirmed the aircraft was a military helicopter but did not immediately release information on its origin or intended destination.
