Two Dead in Mississippi Senior Living Center Fire

Two people died in a fire that engulfed a senior living center in Clinton, Mississippi, a town official confirmed Thursday. The facility was home to more than 100 residents.

Clinton Mayor Will Purdie announced the fatalities during a news conference addressing the fire, which occurred Wednesday night. He stated, "It’s with a heavy heart that I share with you that two residents lost their lives in that fire."

Officials worked through the night to account for all residents. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by state and local authorities.

"Last night, I was once again reminded of the strength of this community through its overwhelming response," Purdie said. "As they always do in times of adversity, our citizens came together at a moment’s notice to help their friends and neighbors."

The senior living center is located in Clinton, approximately 10 miles northwest of Jackson.
