Two Dead in Los Angeles Nightclub Shooting; Dozens Detained
Gunfire erupted at Artist Lounge near California State University, Northridge, prompting a chaotic scene and an ongoing investigation.
A shooting inside a Los Angeles nightclub on Friday night resulted in the deaths of two individuals and sent panicked patrons fleeing for safety. The incident occurred at the Artist Lounge, located in the University Plaza shopping center near the campus of California State University, Northridge.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were already present at the venue responding to noise complaints when gunshots were heard. Upon entering the club, they discovered two young victims, a man and a woman estimated to be between 18 and 25 years old, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
Video footage captured the moment the music and dancing were interrupted by two loud gunshots, leading to pandemonium as people rushed to exit the crowded space.
A witness speaking to KTLA described the scene, stating that the gunman appeared to target specific individuals before inadvertently striking another person. "It all happened so fast," the witness recounted. "This guy pulls out a gun from his waist and aims at one person – boom – then he turned around to get another guy, but he totally missed and got someone else in the back."
In the aftermath of the shooting, dozens of individuals were detained by police outside the shopping center. Aerial footage showed handcuffed individuals being questioned by officers amidst a large crime scene that encompassed multiple businesses. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been announced, and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
The LAPD is continuing its inquiry into the deadly incident. California State University, Northridge, is a public university situated in the San Fernando Valley with an enrollment exceeding 35,000 students.
