Two Dead, Dozens Injured in Georgia Homecoming Party Shooting
Authorities are investigating a mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning at a large homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia.
Two people were killed and at least 35 others were injured when a shooter opened fire during a homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 1:25 a.m. near Pine Street, where over 1,000 people had gathered for the celebration, according to Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy.
The deceased victims have been identified as two men, aged 20 and 23. Their families have been notified, but their names have not yet been publicly released, according to Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been notified and is investigating the shooting alongside local authorities.
Deputies responding to the scene discovered multiple shooting victims and pronounced two individuals dead at the location. Other victims were transported to regional hospitals for treatment.
According to the sheriff, law enforcement officers were already present at the event monitoring the crowd when shots were fired from at least two separate locations approximately one block apart. The identity of the shooter and the motive behind the attack remain under investigation.
