Two cyclists, identified as Steven Anscomb, 60, and Natasha Lewis, 51, died at the scene of a collision near Gravesend, Kent, on Sunday. Their families have paid tribute to them.
Anscomb's wife, Fiona, and daughters, Liberty and Imogen, stated, "He will be so very deeply missed by so many and has been robbed of the special times of life." Lewis's daughter, Hermione, described her mother as "an amazing, thoughtful, and strong woman."
Anscomb's family noted that this was "his last ride before his big bike ride to Amsterdam, but sadly he never came home."
Aaron Turner, 22, of Swanscombe, has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving. He also faces charges for failing to stop at the scene and possession of a Class C drug. Turner appeared before Medway Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
According to court proceedings, the cyclists had been on a training ride ahead of a planned long-distance cycling trip abroad. A third cyclist involved in the incident sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
