Two individuals scaled the Empire State Building and unfurled a banner from its spire on Wednesday afternoon. The banner displayed the message "when the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace."
The New York City Police Department confirmed officers responded to the scene. An NYPD helicopter was dispatched, and the building's observation deck was cleared of visitors as police arrived. The unidentified individuals appeared to be wearing masks.
The spire of the Empire State Building reaches 1,454 feet above ground level.
