Two California Pizzerias Rank Among World's Top 5
Pizzeria Sei and Tony's Pizza Napoletana achieve top-tier status in global pizza rankings.
Two California establishments have earned spots among the world's elite pizzerias, with Los Angeles' Pizzeria Sei and San Francisco's Tony's Pizza Napoletana tying for fifth place in the 2026 50 Top Pizza world rankings.
The rankings were announced Tuesday in Naples, Italy, highlighting the growing international recognition of American culinary excellence in pizza making.
Both Pizzeria Sei and Tony's Pizza Napoletana saw an increase in their standing from the previous year. Pizzeria Sei, a Tokyo-style Italian pizzeria, climbed from the No. 9 spot globally in 2025 to secure its No. 5 position. Meanwhile, Tony's Pizza Napoletana, a San Francisco institution, advanced from No. 10 to also land at No. 5.
Tony's Pizza Napoletana, located in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood and owned by chef Tony Gemignani, has been a consistent presence in the rankings. The restaurant was ranked No. 6 in 2024, No. 19 in 2023, and No. 10 in 2022. Gemignani attended the awards ceremony in Naples.
Pizzeria Sei, launched in 2022 by chef William Joo and his wife Jennifer So, is known for its fusion of traditional Neapolitan pizza techniques with Japanese precision. The restaurant, which has been recommended by the Michelin Guide, recently expanded with a new location in West LA.
