Two 19-Year-Old Friends Killed in South Yorkshire Car Crash
Jacob Patching and Jacob Skidmore died when their BMW struck a lamppost; families are paying tribute.
Two 19-year-old friends, Jacob Patching and Jacob Skidmore, died on September 26 after the BMW they were traveling in collided with a lamppost in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Emergency services were called to the scene on East Bawtry Road around 6:45 p.m. but pronounced both individuals deceased.
South Yorkshire Police are supporting the families of Patching and Skidmore through family liaison officers. Flowers have been left at the site of the crash.
Patching's family described him as "a loyal, hardworking, caring and kind young man with a contagious sense of humour." They added, "Our whole lives have changed beyond measure in an instant and the pain left behind is immeasurable. Nothing will ever be the same without him." The family also expressed gratitude to emergency services and the community.
Skidmore's family stated, "We would like to thank all that are supporting us through this time. Jacob was loved by all who knew him, especially his work family at The Paint Factory, his girlfriend and his friends." They noted his passion for "mending anything with an engine" and said, "He has left a big hole in our family that will never close. Forever in our hearts. Love Mum, Dad, Brothers and Sister."
An investigation into the collision is ongoing, and police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and urge anyone with information or footage to contact us," South Yorkshire Police said in a statement.
