Twelve individuals have been arrested in connection with an alleged right-wing terror threat targeting an Islamic event in Suffolk, England. Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) London announced the arrests, stating that the UK Ijtima event at Shrubland Hall in Barham was concluded early on Sunday as a precautionary measure due to the potential threat.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood commented on the situation, asserting that the police's swift response to a "credible threat" to the festival had "undoubtedly saved lives." Commander Helen Flanagan, head of CTP London, stated that officers acted rapidly to apprehend suspects at various locations across the country.
CTP has confirmed the investigation is "right-wing terrorism related" and searches are ongoing at addresses linked to those arrested. Eight men were detained under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and remain in custody. Additionally, three other men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, and one woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Of these individuals, one has been released on bail, while the remaining three are still in custody.
