TV Series 'Marshals' Season 2 Premiere Features Major Character Death
The highly anticipated second season of the 'Yellowstone' spinoff opened with a violent confrontation that resulted in the demise of a key character.
The second season of Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" spinoff, "Marshals," kicked off with a significant character death in its premiere episode, "All Hat No Cattle."
The episode picked up following the events of the first season's finale, with Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) and Belle (Arielle Kebbel) having survived a shootout. Cruz (Ash Santos) stayed behind to worry about Kayce (Luke Grimes), who appeared anxious when she visited him.
Kayce had been attacked at his home. An attorney named Stan Cobb (David Alan Basche) informed Kayce that Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey) was increasing his offer for East Camp, stating Weaver "never takes no for an answer." Kayce and Dolly (Ellyn Jameson), Weaver's daughter, declined the offer. However, armed men then attacked Kayce and Dolly. Cobb threatened Kayce with a "fishing accident" involving his son, Tate. Kayce relented, agreeing to sign over East Camp in exchange for Tate's safe return. After seeing Tate fishing via video call, Kayce turned the tables on Cobb and his men.
Dolly expressed horror and disbelief at her father's actions, assuring Kayce that the father she knew was not capable of such behavior. She agreed to help Kayce retrieve Tate, warning that Weaver would take Tate to his ranch in Big Horn, Wyoming, which was guarded by his own forces, rather than to Texas.
Kayce contacted Weaver, and they arranged an exchange of their children at Weaver's Wyoming ranch. Kayce proposed that they both walk away afterward, not even informing his Marshals team. As Kayce and Dolly approached the ranch, Kayce gave Dolly his gun for protection. Weaver arrived without a weapon. After Kayce signed over the ranch, Weaver revealed hidden armed men and ordered them to kill Kayce. Dolly intervened with Kayce's gun, but after Weaver stated his actions were to protect her, she handed the weapon back to Kayce.
Weaver then aimed his gun at Kayce and fired, but Kayce had not loaded the first bullet. While Kayce escaped, one of Weaver's men took Tate to drown him. The Marshals arrived via helicopter, having deduced the danger and Weaver's use of the ranch for a Ponzi scheme. They neutralized Weaver's team and cornered Weaver and Dolly as they attempted to flee in a truck. When offered a chance to surrender, Dolly urged her father to stop, but Weaver drove off. The Marshals fired on the truck, causing it to crash into a boulder and roll down a hill. Kayce found Dolly dead in the wreckage.
Weaver, in distress, urged Kayce to shoot him for vengeance, but Kayce refused, stating that living with Dolly's death was the punishment he deserved.
Later, Cruz provided information that helped Kayce understand Dolly's situation. She had been involved in bringing in money but was unaware of its true purpose. Cruz explained that Dolly's "only sin is being unable to break away from family," a sentiment Kayce understood.
New episodes of "Marshals" Season 2 air Sundays on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
